Food traceability

What is food traceability?

Food traceability is the ability to follow the path of a food product and its ingredients throughout the entire supply chain, from raw material to the end consumer, identifying the origin of each batch and its destination at any given time.

It is a legal requirement (Regulation (EC) 178/2002) and the basis for carrying out fast, targeted product recalls in response to an incident.
