Batch traceability is the ability to identify and track a set of units produced under uniform conditions under a single code, both back to its raw materials and forward to its destination. It allows the full history of each manufactured batch to be reconstructed.

It's essential to locate product affected by an issue and to run targeted recalls instead of mass ones.
